-Season Greatings 2009

Dear pilots and friends,

another year has almost passed by and it is time again to say thank you to all of you for keeping Cyber Air flying. It was exactly 15 years ago that Bill Alderson started what became one of the biggest success stories in the virtual skies, and we cannot thank him enough for doing so. There are not too many VAs that have been around for so long -- quite the contrary. Many who have ventured to make it have come and gone pretty fast. Maybe because they noticed that it is quite a bit of effort that needs to be made. Over the years, and especially again this year, we had the pleasure to find that many of those who are really enthusiastic, willing and able to devote their efforts, time and hearts to our hobby are Cyber Air members.

One of the first to mention is Fred Rosenbaum, who keeps our website in the net, patiently answers the same questions over and over again -- and all that voluntarily beside working hard in his new job. Thanks, Fred.

A big thank you also to you hub captains and special operations officers (Monday night group flight, DARTS/SAR etc). Without you guys we would have to close down. You're magic! We know that you have your jobs to worry about, your families to take care of, other commitments etc. and we appreciate it very much that you stick with us. And here we are with even another 2 new hubs.

Werner Gillespie has made it possible to convince us of opening a hub in Johannesburg South Africa. He is running FAJS together with KORD although he is inmidst of his final examinations at university. Werner, great job. Thanks for the nice chats we had on our Cyber Air Monday Night Group Flights.

Mike Bell even reopened YSSY and is making it a fantastic success with new ideas. With the help of Werner he is running amazing DART/SAR and Fleet Support missions. Excellent job!

Christoph Beck, I have to thank you for all the support and help, you gave me in the past. Christoph, thanks also for the meeting at your home in September 2009, enjoying great homebrewed “CyBeer” and BBQ with several pilots and friends from the EDDM Hub.

There is another group of people whom we would also like to thank and congratulate at the same time: our wives/girlfriends/partners.
Thanks for not bickering when we take off to leave all the family pleasures behind and meet the other boys somewhere in far-away parts of the world. We promise that we will always land safely. I heard rumors that the in-flight-service is starting to work better now (at least every now and again) and Christoph told me that his wife once even brought him a fresh beer when he was busy in the cockpit ;-) . This is setting new standards. Thank you.

We wish all of you a very happy Christmas (if you can, join us on Monday 21st Dec. at 19UT on our Christmas return flight from EFRO=Rovaniemi to our home hubs to bring presents to the kids) and all the best for 2010.
May it bring peace, give you good health, economic safety and again lots of fun flying for Cyber Air.

Your CEO

Chris Schnaedelbach

-Cyber Air starts Chrismas Flight 2009

We will be flying to Rovaniemi as every year to help Santa deliver presents to all the kids in the world. So, be part of the fun and join us on our Monday Night group flight on December 14, 2009. Leave from your home hub and fly to EFRO. There is awesome freeware scenery for FS9 but none for FSX unfortunately. So this is also good for the old-time fans. Make sure you use a big plane to transport lots of toys and goodies for the kids :-D . The guys from the EDDM hub will leave at around 19 UTC and we will be online on the IVAO network.

Hope to see you there,

Christoph

- Cyber Air has reopened Sydney (YSSY) Hub

I am happy to announce that our Sydney Hub has been opened now, we are looking forward for pilots flying there.

Here a nice story of Mike Bell, the Sydney Hub Captain:

Let me support our announcement of Sydney Hub with a story which takes me
back to a previous VA.

I was Hub Captain for Sydney in that VA and it was Top Hub with more Pilots
and PIREPs than the USA and European Hubs yet it sat 1000’s of nautical
miles away and on the other side of the world from Head Office.

A newbie Pilot had joined my Hub and he simply emailed “I am new at this
and I can take-off and fly but I have never landed a plane. I have paused
the aircraft in the sky near Sydney … how do I land?”

We didn’t have any way to communicate other than email and I talked him
down into YSSY. In each email I asked him to do what I instructed and then
pause the flight again. When he eventually landed the plane he wrote in his
final email “I just made my first landing and got out and kissed the
tarmac.”

So it is with a passion and excitement that I lend my support for the
launch of the Cyber Air Sydney Hub which gives our VA a presence in the
Southern Hemisphere. I live in Auckland New Zealand which is a 3 hr flight across from Sydney Australia.

Oh yes Australia, nearly equal the size of USA and Europe and so many
places to fly. It has awesome scenery and textures for those who like
eye-candy. ATC is well developed. The Domestic airways are vibrant and of
course an International flight will take you across water because Australia
is an island.

Sydney Hub will offer flights ranging from short distance turbo prop
through to the long haul heavy routes and everything in between. You can
enjoy the A380 with a 3 hour hop across to New Zealand or fly ‘big
bird’ across the world. Each route doubles up as a cargo route if that’s what you do.

There is plenty of VA competition in this part of the world but Cyber VA
has always been such an awesome VA (and I have tried so many) so there is
no reason why we shouldn’t do well. I look forward to watching Sydney Hub
grow.

- PMDG MD-11 in Cyber Air Textures

- DART/SAR/fleetsupport in new hands
- KDEN closed
- Cyber Air’s first affiliated company

Our friend Mike Bell (CYB617) has asked the management to accept his resignation from office as Director of DART/SAR and fleetsupport. He hopes to be back as an active pilot in a year’s time and will continue flying for Cyber. Everything else would have been very surprising to us since Mike has always been a tronghold in turbulent times and a friend in need for many Cyber pilots stranded after technical failures or hard landings. He never failed to remind us of those who were less fortunate than ourselves. Mike,

thank you very much for your enthusiasm, time and your work for Cyber Air and we look forward to seeing you again when the turbulences are over.

We’re glad to announce that Werner Gillespie (CYB2400), KORD’s Hub Captain has agreed to be our new Director of DART/SAR and fleetsupport. We’re very happy that DART/SAR and fleetsupport will continue to exist. Thank you, Werner. We look forward to seeing many Cyber pilots coming to help others.

In order to concentrate US activities the CEO has decided to close KDEN. The still active KDEN pilots will be transferred to KORD where their hours will, of course, be taken over from their old roster. Guys, Werner will let you know the procedures. We guess he will agree to you continuing to fly KDEN routes, since Cyber’s charter policies easily accepts that.

Cyber Air’s first affiliated company is on her way. FS-Magazin, the leading German FS-magazine, has approached us and asked for a cooperation. Cyber management has agreed to give it a shot and found FSM (“Magazine”), an airline operating a limited number of short and mid-range flights in Europe. Although “working” for FSM their pilots will be Cyber pilots flying 3 planes that are available as payware and freeware. Fred will add an FSM section to the forum and the Hub section so we can keep you updated as the idea develops.

Cyber Air has got a new paintshop artist

++Press release - August 18th, 2008

New paintshop artist

Cyber Air is happy to announce that a new, very talented repainter
is part of our virtual airline.

Benjamin Gonzales (CYB2924) from EGLL Hub has already done some excellent repaints of Erick Cantu's Embraer 120 Brasilia (freeware) and also created
stunning textures for the Wilco/Feelthere Bombardier CRJ200.

Who saw the screnshots posted in our forum could see how much talent he has. Ben has some more aircraft on his list and we are sure we can expect
more spectacular liveries. So stay tuned.

As soon as his work rolls out of the paintshop we'll put it straight
to the hangar.

Thank you very much Ben, we are looking forward to seeing more of

your superb work.

Cyber Air is opening training facilities for helicopters

++Press release - January 28th, 2008

As some of you pilots may have heard, Cyber Air decided to create a new division "Helicopter Operations" in early January 2008. Preparations regarding the setup of a training base were conducted discreetly since then, and the winner location is now chosen.

Our CEO, Chris Schnaedelbach, as well as Rene Alder, the newly appointed Director of "Helicopter Operations" are very pleased to announce to you all the official opening of the new training facilities, located at the island of Raiatea, French Polynesia, in the Southern Pacific. Cyber Air is happy to offer our fixed-wing pilots the opportunity to learn the ropes of these wonderful rotary-wing aircraft, in a relaxed environment where the sun shines 360 days, with lots of fun and companionship.

An add-on scenery of the heli base for FS9 is available now at our hangar.

A slide show specially prepared for the event can be downloaded and watched here".

Cyber Air textures for free iFly Boeing 744 for FS9 and FSX in the hangar

++ Frank Eigenthaler has done textures for the iFly Boeing 747-400, which is available at www.avsim.com either for FSX or for FS9 with 3 Servicepacks.

The iFly 747-400 offers an extremly detailed cockpit with fully simulated FMC. Complete TCAS simulation with audio and visual TA and RA system. Fully simulated Inertial Reference System. Probably on of the best freeware aircrafts for FS9 and FSX, that all for free! You get the textures here at our hangar.

Weekly Cyber Air Group Flight in the USA planned

++Bill Hughes is looking into starting a weekly group flight in the United States on the VATSIM Network and needs your input for ideas and if you'd participate? Please answer him in the "Online Networks" Section of our Forum. Bill is thinking of either planning to fly where VATSIM has there event scheduled to have ATC or we could start in one state capital and jump around the country flying into all the capitals using the length of flight criteria below. He would also like to set up inter plane communication using Roger Wilco if that work for everyone?

If this is something you'd like to try PLEASE post you ideas in the forum to help with planning and also so Bill can get an idea as to the amount of pilots interested.

New AI Traffic in FS9 and also FSX has been released
+++ Frank Eigenthaler has developed all new Cyber Air AI Traffic for FS9. He and me painted the complete fleet with the new paint scheme. I was able to convert the FS9 AI-Traffic, that it works in FSX also. In both simulators you will be able to watch our complete fleet. flying the Cyber Air schedules all over the world. Other AI traffic isn't affected by our traffic, both work together without any problems.

The new AI planes and traffic files are released and available at the Hangar section of our forum. Of course these AI Planes can be used, if you fly online with FS9 and FSX, using FS-Inn for FS9 and FSX.

Here a screenshot of the departing new AI-Traffic A340 at EDDM within FSX, watch the other Cyber Air planes together with MyTrafficX planes on the apron.
Cyber Air in German FS-Magazin

+++ We are happy that FS-Magazin, a Flight Simulator Magazine in German language, published an article about our Virtual Airline. Due to that, our EDDM hub got some new great pilots.

Bert Groner from FS-Magazin sent us a PDF-File which contains that article and agreed to have it published here. Thanks for all Bert.

Fleet Support

+++We have a new forum on the bulletin board named Fleet Support. Mike Bell has been assigned the position of Director of Fleet Support. He is supported by Jim Crummy, the founder of Fleet Support and will be bringing this up for the needed maintenance of our aircraft and the creation of the flights to fly the aircraft needing maintenance. A new Hub page for Fleet Support is online now.+++

Any Pilot may request Fleet Support from any airport at which the aircraft you are flying develops a problem and can't continue in service without some maintenance or repair. These things can be what actually happened in your game or a fictious event just to generate interest such as

  • a heavy landing
  • aircraft fire
  • collision
  • run off runway

DART Division with new missions

+++Mike Bell, Director of Fleet Support, took over the DART Division and published several new missions.
